Honoring Your Loved One
Funeral planning can get overwhelming, but you’re not alone. Our staff is here to support you and help you through your grief journey while honouring your loved one. To help you get started, below is some helpful information, but please feel free to contact us with any questions.

Burial Services
Depending on your personal preferences, there are several services to choose from for a loved one’s burial:
-
For an immediate burial, your loved one will be buried or entombed without a public service or gathering.
-
A visitation, also called a viewing, calling hours, or wake, lets everyone gather in a room with their loved one in an open or closed casket to say goodbye and comfort the bereaved.
-
Funeral or memorial services can be held at a funeral home, church, or even your home. The service is for celebrating and honouring your loved one’s life. Both visitation and service can be personalized to your loved one’s passions.
-
Graveside, chapel, or committal services take place at the cemetery. This allows everyone to be present as their loved one is transferred to his or her final resting place through ground burial.

Cremation Services
When cremation is to take place, we recommend a viewing and funeral service to honour your loved one’s life. After the cremation and services, there are several options for your loved one’s final disposition:
-
Interment is when you bury or entomb your loved one's cremated remains. This can be in a family plot, memorial site, cremation niche or urn garden, or other indoor and outdoor locations. Please reach out to our staff for a detailed list of interment options.
-
Graveside cremation services are similar to traditional ground burials, as everyone is at the burial of the cremated remains and honour your loved one through other meaningful tributes.
-
Scattering is when you spread your loved one's cremated remains in a memorial garden, cemetery, over water, or another significant location. You also can choose to scatter some of the cremated remains and retain the rest in an urn for interment or another form of disposition.
-
By placing cremated remains in multiple urns, family members who live in different locations can each have their loved one's final resting place close to them.

Payment Options
As funeral service leaders, we are committed to supporting grieving families by creating meaningful and appropriate personalized tributes to honour their loved one’s life.
Our continued goal is to provide the respectful, quality service to which all our families have come to expect and are entitled. Please let us know in advance if you are dealing with limited funds so we can tailor a service to fit your budget. We will never compromise a dignified funeral service as we are able to offer alternatives and options for any situation.
Northwest Funeral Chapel has established a uniform payment policy. This policy allows us to exercise sound business practices, treat every family honestly and fairly, provide 24-hour daycare, and maintain an accessible, beautiful facility where families are comfortable gathering for services.
While we acknowledge that we cannot take the pain away, with our guidance and assistance we hope to make your grief journey a little easier and perhaps less lonely. We are humbled by the privilege to serve you and sincerely appreciate your confidence.
Payment for all service disbursements is to be paid in full same day as the arrangement meeting. Professional fees and any other fees are to be paid in full 24 hours prior to service. In the case of cremations payment in full is expected prior to cremation services. At the end of the arrangement meeting, you will be presented with a contract itemizing the goods and services that you requested. For your convenience, the following payment methods are accepted.
-
Cash or Verified Cheque (Money Order/Draft/Official Cheque/Certified Cheque)
-
Credit Card Payment – We accept Visa and Mastercard.
-
EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer) – Please ask us for a form with the correct information.
-
Interac E-Transfer – Please use email accounting@nwfuneralchapel.ca.
-
TruStage Funeral Plans - We accept prearranged (Prepaid Funeral Plans purchased before death) from TruStage, that were assigned through our funeral home. On a case-by-case basis, we will also honour prearranged funeral plans that were assigned at another funeral home. If you would like to use a prearranged funeral plan as a form of payment that was assigned at another funeral home, please contact one of our funeral directors.
-
Estates: Due to the uncertain time frame with estates, we will not invoice estates. If an estate is established, you will be responsible for the payment of the funeral expenses through one of the above payment options. You may then petition the estate for reimbursement for the payment of funeral expenses.
Interest of 2.0 % a month will begin to accrue 30 days after arrangement date on any unpaid balance. After 60 days, any balance will be turned over to collections.
